Terms of service

KentekenFeed makes the RDW’s open data available as a vehicle API, a daily mutation feed, snapshots and mutation files. Which parts you can use depends on your plan.

We are not an RDW service and do not act on behalf of the RDW. We take the data as the RDW publishes it, give the fields English names and add, per dataset, when the RDW published it and when we last checked.

You give correct and complete details when you create your account, and keep them up to date.

You keep passwords and API keys secret. Everything done with your account or your keys is your responsibility. If you suspect a key has leaked, replace it in the portal and let us know.

We may revoke a key that has leaked or is being misused. We will let you know as soon as possible.

You may use the service for your own business and in your own products and services. You may not:

• resell the service itself or offer it as your own API or feed without our written permission;
• get around limits, security or the counting of lookups, for example with several accounts;
• use the service in a way that slows it down or takes it down for others;
• use the service for anything that breaks the law or the rights of others.

You may use the RDW’s open data itself as the RDW allows.

A registration number can become personal data as soon as you link it to a person. If you do that with KentekenFeed data, you are responsible for complying with data protection law (GDPR).

Each plan has its own terms: which parts it includes, how many lookups a month are included, how many requests a minute you may make and, if the plan allows overage, up to how many lookups a month. Your plan’s terms are shown in the portal.

A lookup is every successful answer to a registration request, including answers from our cache. Invalid and unknown registrations, refused requests and outages do not count.

Once you reach your plan’s maximum, the API refuses further lookups until the next month, or until you choose another plan.

The count is our record, as shown in the portal, unless you show that it is wrong.

All prices are in euros and exclude VAT. Current prices are on the website and in the portal.

Subscriptions are paid in advance per month or per year. Overage and usage-based lookups are paid afterwards per calendar month. Payments run through Stripe; invoices are in the portal.

If a payment fails, you keep access for a short time while we retry. If payment still fails, access stops until it is paid.

If we change a plan’s price or terms, you keep your current terms until we tell you at least 30 days in advance that we are moving you. You can cancel before the move.

A subscription renews automatically for the same period: a month or a year.

You can cancel at any time in the portal. The subscription then ends at the end of the current period; you keep access until then. Paid periods are not refunded.

We can end a subscription with 30 days’ notice, or immediately if you seriously breach these terms or do not pay after a reminder.

We may temporarily block access to (part of) the service in case of misuse, a security risk or overdue payment. Where possible we tell you in advance. A block does not end the subscription.

We do our best to keep the service available and up to date, but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation unless we agree to that separately in writing. We announce planned maintenance in advance where possible.

How current the data is depends on when the RDW publishes new versions. If a dataset has not been checked for more than 36 hours, the answer says so (stale: true).

We deliver the data as the RDW publishes it. We do not guarantee that it is correct or complete. Check the data yourself before you base important decisions on it.

Our liability is limited to direct damage and to at most the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that caused the damage.

We are not liable for indirect damage, such as lost profit, missed savings, lost data or damage from decisions based on the data.

These limits do not apply in case of intent or deliberate recklessness by our management.

The software, the API, the documentation and the design of KentekenFeed remain ours. While your subscription runs, you may use the service as these terms describe. That right is non-exclusive and non-transferable.

How we handle your account details is described in our privacy statement. The RDW’s open data contains no names or addresses of owners or keepers.

We may change these terms. We tell you about important changes by email at least 30 days in advance. If you do not agree, you can cancel before they take effect.

Dutch law applies to these terms and to every agreement with us. Disputes go to the competent court in the district where we are established.
